GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026 — but the PC version may not arrive until Q1 2028. We break down Rockstar’s console-to-PC track record, what Take-Two has actually said, and why Xbox Cloud Gaming won’t close the gap. Bookmark this page: we’ll update it the moment Rockstar confirms a PC date.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is nearly here — for console players, at least. Rockstar’s open-world crime epic is set to arrive on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, while PC players will be left waiting a while longer.
GTA 6 PC release date estimate
Our best guess for the GTA 6 PC release date is Q1 2028 — roughly 14–16 months behind the console debut. This isn’t based on leaks or insider claims; it’s extrapolated from Rockstar’s established pattern of delayed PC releases. That wait would be shorter than the 19 months GTA 5 PC players endured, but longer than the 13-month gap for Red Dead Redemption 2. Confidence in the window comes partly from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, who suggested GTA 6 Online would arrive sometime in 2027, referencing an expected viewership bump “when they launch multiplayer” — implying multiplayer lands before the PC build.
Even so, Rockstar has not confirmed a PC version at all. The game’s platform listing currently shows PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. A complete PC skip would still be shocking: the studio’s last two major releases both made the jump, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has repeatedly stressed how important PC has become to the business.

Why isn’t GTA 6 coming to PC at launch?
Zelnick explained in 2026 that Rockstar traditionally serves its console core first, and he rejected the theory that a PlayStation marketing deal caused GTA 6 to skip PC at launch. He also noted that PC can now account for 45–50% of sales for a major title — a far larger share than when he joined the company — meaning a PC version of GTA 6 would tap a huge audience.
Former Rockstar producer John Ricchio added that designing around console hardware limits first gives the studio more room to expand for PC later: scaling up to more powerful hardware is easier than scaling down to consoles. For a game as technically ambitious as GTA 6 appears to be, that explains the console-first approach.
How long did GTA 5 take to come to PC?
The most useful historical precedent. GTA 5 arrived on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 and reached PC in April 2015 — a gap of roughly 19 months. Rockstar then shipped GTA 5 on PS4 and Xbox One in November 2014, so the PC edition landed about five months after that second console wave. With next-gen hardware on the horizon, a similar staggered approach is conceivable, though no release windows for the next PlayStation and Xbox consoles have been announced.
Other data points: L.A. Noire hit PC about six months after consoles, and GTA 4’s PC port followed its console launch by several months. Red Dead Redemption 2 released on PS4 and Xbox One in October 2018 and reached PC 13 months later, in November 2019. The extreme case is the original Red Dead Redemption, which didn’t arrive on PC for another 14 years.

Has Rockstar said anything about GTA 6 on PC?
Nothing official. The game’s platform information lists only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the official website makes no mention of PC. Still, Take-Two’s comments make it very hard to believe PC players will be left behind permanently. Zelnick said Rockstar has “started with some platforms and then historically moved to others,” while acknowledging PC’s growing importance — about as close to a confirmation as we’ve gotten.
Will the GTA 6 PC version have extra features?
Rockstar’s PC editions have tended to be more than plain ports: GTA 5 became the foundation for a robust graphics options suite and a thriving modding scene, while RDR2’s PC release added visual enhancements aimed at stronger hardware. There’s every chance the extra time will make the PC version the definitive technical edition of GTA 6 — which also lines up with Ricchio’s point about leaving room to push the PC build later. Expect higher resolutions, richer graphics settings, ultrawide support, higher frame rates — and, inevitably, mods.

Can you stream GTA 6 to PC via Xbox Cloud Gaming?
No — this isn’t a loophole for playing GTA 6 on PC without a console. Xbox has clarified that GTA 6 will not stream to PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming, despite an earlier report claiming Microsoft had secured exclusive streaming rights. Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball said the company looks forward to launching GTA 6 on Xbox on November 19, but confirmed the game “will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.”
